Deep Live Gathering at Finca Verde

What's Finca Verde?

Finca Verde is an Eco Hacker Farm project. It is around 4 ha of olive, almond and orange groves. The almond plantation is secano which means 'not irrigated'. The rest of the land is irrigated.

The vision is to:

  • transform a conventional olive & almond farm into a permaculture organic regenerative farm
  • offer a space of learning and reconnecting with nature
  • participate in the local economy
  • support and participate in aligned local community projects
  • provide regenerative services

What is Deep Adaptation?

“Embodying and enabling loving responses to our predicament. Connecting people, in all spheres of life, to foster mutual support and collaboration in the process of anticipating, observing, and experiencing societal disruption and collapse.” deepadaptation.info

What happens during a Deep Live Gathering?

Deep Live Gathering is an international distributed event with online and in-person meetings.

“We will gather in different places around the globe in order to meet each other in physical, virtual and spiritual spaces. We will share our grief, fear, anger, love, joy, compassion and trust that we have in times of collapsing unsustainable civilization. We do not have false hopes, but we do have a community of each other.

We invite people who are not in denial about the situation and ready to live and to act together in the world as it is. We invite people of different professions and backgrounds, especially activists, artists, researchers and protectors of ecosystems, alternative education practitioners, urban and rural communities and ecovillages members, thinkers, philosophers and writers, social entrepreneurs, traditional knowledge holders, psychologists and psychotherapists, cultural workers, meditation practitioners, natural beekeepers, forest gardeners, seed savers and farmers practising regenerative agriculture.

The Gathering is a joint action, defined by all participants as a living community of human beings.

Deep Live Gathering is an experimental multi-local non-commercial event. The Gathering has no financial support from DAF or other organizations. It is funded by donations; participants of local gatherings were invited to pay for living and travel costs and to help those who do not have this possibility.”

09:00 - 11:00 Deep Live Gathering Earth Ceremony - There is a glow, an irrepressible joy that spontaneously arises within us when we really listen to the Earth, or any of Her myriad forms of life. When we are able to still our mind and start to breathe with Nature….. breathing in the oxygen the trees have just released and becoming aware of them absorbing the carbon dioxide we have just exhaled….. then start to deeply relax…. we begin to realise we really are an intrinsic part of the whole…we actually belong here… we are part of the Earth. From this life-changing deep connection, we then become able to listen and hear what is the next step we need to take, in our unique capacity as the individual we are right now, to become “the change we want to see in the world”.
11:00 - 14:00 Lunch, space care, departure

Naked flames, smoking, bonfires and camping stoves are not allowed anywhere on the land. We are in a high fire risk area. Cooking facilities will be available in a communal outdoor kitchen area.

We ask all participants not to consume alcohol or any other intoxicants/drugs anywhere on the property. We offer the opportunity to enjoy the space and relationships with others without mind-altering substances.

We love animals however we kindly ask you to please leave your pets with someone who loves them at home.

Children are welcome, parents should be aware that the terrain is steeply terraced with steep drop-offs and rough terrain, for this reason, we ask that young children should be supervised at all times.

We live in an area with very limited water supply, it may well be that in October we will not have any access to water, we ask attendees to be mindful of water usage during their stay. Water can be brought from Lanjaron in containers if you are coming by car please bring as much water as possible with you for your stay and to share with others. We will provide 20-liter shower bags that people may use for showering. If there is enough water in the water deposit it will also be possible to swim in the non-chlorinated alberca.

Upon arrival on Thursday participants will meet to self-organise the food and how the food expenses will be split. The neighbouring organic farm sells goat milk, cheese, eggs and vegetables. If that's not enough there is also a shop in Lanjaron which sells organic vegetables.

If you are intending to arrive later please let us know and we will let you know what the group has decided.

In order to spread the burden of hosting and to create a community feeling all participants are invited to co-create and maintain the space in a way that is least damaging to the land in consultation with the land stewards.

Communal spaces will include:

  • communal kitchen
  • outdoor shower
  • compost toilet
  • camping area
  • caravan parking area
  • quiet meditation spaces

Granada is the major transportation hub in the region. It's possible to get there by direct bus, train, or plane from Madrid or Barcelona.

From there take the Alsa (https://www.alsa.es/) bus from the main bus station (Av. de Juan Pablo II, s/n, 18014 Granada) to Lanjaron for 60-90 minutes. Cost: 4.56€

It's possible to pay on the website or through the app, incurring a 1-2 euro transaction + insurance fee, or cash (in denominations less than 20) on the bus.

Pick-up is possible when coordinated as a group.

Driving from Granada, take GR-30 heading south. At roundabout, choose Motril, exit 164, and transfer to road A-44. At the next roundabout, continue towards Motril and take A-348.

Continue down A-348 through Lanjaron and as you enter outskirts of town turn right onto unnamed road by Mirador del Visillo.

Continue straight down for 4 kms and take a sharp right onto a gravel road.

Follow the road for less than a kilometer to the fork. Take a right onto the dirt track.

Finca Verde is the third house on the left at coordinates 36.888696544533, -3.482578788374286.
