Social Permaculture

Permaculture is a word coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren from “permanent” & “culture” / “agriculture” in the 1970's.

Permaculture practitioners around the world have applied permaculture principles to their landscapes and lives manifesting abundance not only on the land but also in their own selves and those around them.

Social permaculture therefore focuses on intrapersonal development, community relationships and all that is to do with how we relate with ourselves and others.

In the last decade there has been great developments in the field of social permaculture as it has become clear that not everyone is able to or indeed wants to live the homesteading life in the country. One such developments came from Looby McNamara who authored People & Permaculture in which the design web is presented.

Social permaculture recognizes that the care for us as people is an important factor when it comes to designing for sustainable living, to ensure that our needs are met but not at the expense of the earth we need to be equipped with tools that enable us to make those decisions and find solutions to match them.

In an increasing chaotic and unstable environment we are faced with challenges that are unprecedented. It is within ourselves that we will find the resilience to thrive despite the adversities that our communities are facing.

It provides tools and knowledge about how we can inter – relate, motivate, inspire, act collaboratively and effectively to bring about positive benefits for the planet and people. It celebrate the value and effectiveness of applying permaculture principles and design to all relationships.
