Signs in the Garden

Signs in the garden have multiple needs to fulfill.

  • not degradable - we want to read them multiple years
  • should not be easily overgrown
  • not be blown away
  • shouldn't be attached to the plant
    • often you can harm the plant by fixing it on to it
    • or reduce their room to grow

Franz came up with a simple idea to mark every plant with this simple solution made from wire and plastic “garbage”: Simple garden sign for each plant

You have to cut thicker wire into 50cm and bend it with pliers one and a quarter turn. The end should look upwards, you can even bend it around the wire to have a nice closed loop.

You cut plastic sheets and put a hole in it with a hole puncher. Now cut the thinner wire and knot the plastic sheet through the hole. Label the plastic sheet with a permanent marker.

For the identifier: If you want to make it really good, you should have a database/spread sheet/table with all your plants and each plant should have an unique identifier. The identifier belongs on the sign. You can use the identifiers again when a plant died.
