House manual

Welcome to Veintidós, the house manual is a living document, we keep updating it so that anyone is able to take care of the house and feel at home.

Indoor plants

All located in the living room, water a little daily. Avocados in jars should be topped up to the rims of the jars, they drink a lot of water.

Outdoor plants

VERY IMP: You need to water the garden once a day - at sunset - watering the plants when the heat of the day is strongest would boil the roots and kill everything.

Here's a map of the garden

The easiest way to water the garden is to start from the top to the bottom.

Water generously, especially in summer.

Bedding

Each room comes with a winter blanket usually on a high shelf or inside the wardrobe in summer and on the beds in winter with extra blankets in the spare bedroom that is on the left.

Clean sheets and pillow cases are stored in each room, in the left spare bedroom on the shelf if the bed is not made and the right spare bedroom in the wardrobe if the bed is not made. In the main bedroom the sheets would be on the bed.

If you need a spare sheet for any reason you can use the ones that are currently sofa covers as there are no spare sheets. It is advisable to wash the sheets first thing in the morning and hang on the terrace (not on the balcony because the police come and tell you off) to dry - in summer they will dry very quickly.

Towels

Clean towels are stored in the upstairs bathroom, if you want to reuse the towel you can have your towel in your room, it will dry quickly in the summer.

When you are not using the bathrooms leave the doors open for good air circulation to keep the house cool and the bathrooms free of excess humidity and mold.

Fans

There is a big fan in the living room which can be turned on from a unit on the left of the balcony door, turn the know once to the right to turn on for best setting. (make sure the avocado jars are topped up with water to the rims twice a day if you turn the fan on because the fan dries them up very quickly)

There are 2 stand up fans, both in the main bedroom.

If the heat is excessive you may want to sleep in the living room as it is much cooler than the upstairs rooms at night.

Occasionally there is an accumulation of water at the bottom of the fridge that then starts leaking on the kitchen floor. Be careful not to slip and if you can please check everyday and wipe the water at the bottom of the fridge so that it's not leaking as it makes the kitchen floor slippery and dangerous.

If you like problem solving you might want to google it, my theory is that the drain (a little hole at the bottom rack of the fridge isn't working well and therefore not draining).

Checking that the fridge door closed decreases the amount of water that sits there due to condensation when it's left open. If anything has gone off (gone off is not the same as marked expired some expired food might still be good) throw it away, you don't need to ask the project manager.

In the unlikely event that the fridge is broken let the project manager know as soon as possible so that we can advise the landlord that it needs repairing.

The hob is gas and the oven is electric.

For the hob:

  • push down and turn left the knob that you'd like to turn on to release the gas
  • keep the knob pressed as you use the lighter to light up the burner
Warning

Be careful not to burn your eyebrows, don't leave the knob pressed unnecessarily if you have problems lighting one burner try another.

Make sure that all knobs are turned off after you have finished cooking.

For the oven:

There are 2 knobs you need to turn to light this:

  • the temperature knob turn to desired temperature
  • the mode knob if you turn this once on the the symbol that have a box with 2 lines in it that's pretty much a good one for all uses.
Warning

Don't put food directly on the oven rack - use a piece of foil or a metal container this will keep the oven cleaner longer

Use a kitchen towel to get the stuff out - be careful that this isn't wet to avoid burns

Make sure that the oven is turned off when you're done cooking

If for any reason the oven or hob isn't working alter the project manager so that we can organise for the landlord to come and have a look at it.

Water

Water from the tap is safe to drink, there is no hot water in the sink at the moment.

Plates, glasses, utensils, cutlery, pots & pans

Plates & glasses are stored in the cabinet above the kitchen sink.

Utensils and cutlery are stored in the drawers on the left of the oven.

Pots and pans are stored in the lower cabinet on the right of the oven.

Food

Cooking oil is stored in the top area cabinet on the right of the oven.

Dry food & sauces are stored in the cabinet on the top area on the left of the fridge.

Fresh vegetables are stored on the kitchen counter to the left of the fridge.

Equipment

We don't own a kettle - you will need to boil a pot of water to make tea (please use a lid to save gas when boiling the water)

Compost bins and mixed trash bins

The compost bins (blue and yellow plastic containers are on the kitchen counter on the right of the oven (they need to be emptied every 2 days - there is a separate ticket for this that will be assigned to you with instructions) - we do not put meat in these containers.

The mixed trash bin is near the washing machine, this is thrown in the skip opposite the house when the bin is full.

The recycled waste plastic/cardboard should go in boxes marked accordingly and when full emptied in the recycled bins at the mirador [https://goo.gl/maps/vNMGJYByUJs|here].

There is a bag full of plastic bags that we use for shopping please remember to use one from here instead of getting a new one from the shop.
